In the book similarities and differences of ritual cultures in the three school types are described and the effects of national discourses about rituals in school are explained. Extensive coverage is given in the book to examples of reflection processes. The concept of reflection as a social act is applied for analysis of these processes and a specific focus is put on critical reflection.
What is left out of the book is the entire complex of reflection settings. Developing the argument in the book was possible without it. However the findings from the study concerning the reflection settings used by teachers in Irish primary schools, German mainstream schools and free alternative schools are a valuable source of information in their own right. If you are interested in this part of the study you can find a pdf-document with a summary here about reflection settings used in the three different school types.
